Green 4’s Project Director, Tim Allen, travelled to Newmarket for the annual REAP conference today.

The event, organised by Agri-techE, a leading industry body, brings together a range of organisations, including local authorities, tech start-ups, established companies and, of course, farmers and producers.  We went along to hear the latest from the industry and to meet like-minded people who were flying the Agritech flag!

Among some fascinating presentations and conversations we learnt that strawberries can get too hot in the field, that we may all end up eating grass and that there are researchers out there who are genuinely listening to what worms are talking about because the sounds they make carry valuable invaluable information about soil quality!

It was a fascinating and interesting day – and we concluded that this industry really does need a centre of excellence where many of these ideas could be commercialised.  It made us even more convinced that having a concentration of these innovative companies in one place, where they could bounce ideas off each other, would be hugely beneficial.
